I know it’s been a while.
My best friend’s friend was just diagnosed with Leukemia. She was transgendered and trying to transition, and then found out she has no white cells. Literally: none.
I know I have no right to be sad, since it’s not happening to me and it’s not even MY best friend, but fuck. It’s the kind of reality check that I have a lot of trouble coping with.
She’s in a germ-free room in Boston. She doesn’t know how long she has to live, but it’s only months. My best friend is feet from me but I feel miles away from her.
What do I say?

The meaning behind my tumblr name is that I love Sasquatch, and I think he really is the most glamorous and misunderstood of the many fantastical, possibly-imaginary, elusive monsters that may or may not roam this earth. I love alliteration so Smooch worked well. It had to be a happy word—it could not have been something dark like Sasquatch Slaughter or something raunchy like Sasquatch Sex—and I imagine in an encounter with Sasquatch, most people’s first reaction would involve fear, anger, shock or quick-thinking photography. Not a tiny kiss.

1. I am an English Major, Sociology Minor with an (unofficial) concentration in Racial Identity.
2. I am turning 21 in one month.
3. I like to write and my best stories always involve water.
4. I drink vinegar like it is a beverage.
5. I am mildly externally allergic to water.
6. I am pale and I like it.
7. I have NO tattoos. That’s become a unique fact these days, right?
8. I consider myself intelligent yet I enjoy: Real Housewives of NY/NJ, Degrassi, Kathy Griffin, Laguna Beach and the movie “Eurotrip.”
9. I had a pet rat named Robbie and I plan on getting another soon, who shall be named Marcus.
10. I like beets.
11. I have stepped foot in seven countries: US of A, Canada, Mexico, Scotland, England, Ghana, and Togo.
12. My name in Ghana was Abena, which means “Wednesday” in the Twi dialect of Akan, because I was born on September 5th, 1989—a Wednesday.
13. My favorite book will probably always be In Cold Blood by Truman Capote.
14. I have a massive crush on Andy Samberg but for a long, long time I thought his name was Andy Sandberg.
15. I want the Loch Ness monster to be real, and I have a strong connection to the fictitious character of Sasquatch.
16. Sometimes I tell people I was on Legends of the Hidden Temple when I was younger.
17. I saw a world cup qualifying game when I was abroad: Sudan vs. Ghana. (Sudan sucked because it was during Ramadan and they were all hungry)
